INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 14, 2008) — As part of the International CES Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Awards program, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) recently recognized the Mirage® MX home theater system as being among the best designed and engineered products for 2009.

As a 2009 Innovations honoree in the home theater speakers category, the MX was selected for this prestigious accolade by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and trade journalists. Evaluating products in 34 consumer electronics categories, the judges based their decisions on the following criteria: engineering qualities, aesthetic and design qualities, user value and novel features.

Featuring five palm-sized, Omnipolar® speakers and the brand’s smallest-ever powered subwoofer, the MX home theater system is engineered to deliver serious sound without drowning out a room’s décor. Mirage’s Omnipolar sound philosophy works with a room, rather than against it, creating the proper proportion of direct and reflected sound. As a result, audiences get completely immersive experiences that permeate evenly throughout the entire listening environment.

“The MX is all about minimizing your speakers, not your sound,” said Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager. “It’s truly a milestone product for Mirage—and now, as a CES Innovations honoree, the entire consumer electronics industry.”

Slated to launch this month to specialty retail outlets, the Mirage MX home theater system will carry a U.S. MSRP of $1,200. Mirage will also sell individual MX stereo speakers for $150, so consumers can add channels to their 5.1 MX package, if desired.

The Mirage MX home theater system will be on display at the 2009 International CES, which runs January 8 through the 11, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees, by product category, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, booth #72062.

Become Immersed in Mirage® Speakers New Web Site

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 29, 2008)—Mirage®, a Canadian-based manufacturer of home audio speakers, has completely redesigned its miragespeakers.com web site. Applying a sophisticated new look and implementing several user-friendly features and media tools, this online destination makes researching the brand’s Omnipolar® sound both easy and exciting.

According to Jill Escol, marketing manager for Mirage, the web site accurately reflects—and reinforces—the Mirage brand’s appeal, which is all about sophisticated style and immersive audio performance.

“This site reaches out to those who don’t yet know the Mirage name, while demonstrating our enthusiasm to those who already do. It’s all part of an ambitious plan that’s designed to increase global recognition of the Mirage name and reinforce its brand promises,” Escol noted. “Whoever and wherever you are, once you’re in the Mirage sound, you’ll never want to leave.”

The site’s design exudes modern appeal and is meant to focus on how Mirage speakers benefit and blend with a user’s lifestyle. Also, many of the site’s functions have been streamlined, giving visitors quick and easy access to the information they need to make solid purchase decisions. New features include highly detailed product description pages with expandable and downloadable photos, as well as a product comparison tool and system recommendations.

Once consumers make a product selection, they can take advantage of the site’s “Where to Buy Section,” which easily locates the nearest Mirage retailer in their area. Plus, it gives them the advantage of knowing they are buying from an authorized dealer who honors warranty terms.

Media will also benefit from this new site, as it offers a comprehensive news center and corporate pages that contain all the latest information on Mirage and its products. A complete gallery of downloadable high-resolution photos is also included.

“We wanted to make this site as friendly to the media as to our consumers,” said Escol. “Everything Mirage, including the company’s history, milestones and press releases, can all easily be accessed through the news center and “about” pages.”

In addition to the new site, Mirage launched an all-new logo in July that is clean and contemporary, like the products on which it appears. Speaking of which, Mirage will introduce several new products this fall, including its smallest home theater system and powered subwoofers to date.

TORONTO, ON (May 7, 2008) — In late June, Mirage will begin shipping its new generation of Omnican in-ceiling speakers. Designed with performance, style and versatility in mind, the latest OC-65, OC-55 and OC-45 offer several improvements over the original Omnican 5 and 6 models they replace.

According to Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product manager, when the Omnican 5 and 6 launched three years ago, they were the first in-ceiling speakers that could truly create sound in a perfect 360-degree pattern. The new Omnican models build upon that heritage with advanced cosmetics, including weather resistant enclosures, and performance.

“Incorporating over 30 years of research and development experience in the high-end audio segment, the OC-65, OC-55 and OC-45 utilize several proprietary technologies, making them the most spacious-sounding in-ceiling speakers on the market,” said Tustin-Fuchs. “In fact, I consider them the most unique architectural products around, especially because they can be installed indoors or out.”

All three models feature polypropylene titanium deposit hybrid woofers with patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. This exclusive design eliminates distortion, enabling the speakers to play lower with greater output and fidelity.

While the OC-65, OC-55 and OC-45 employ 6.5-inch, 5.5-inch and 4.5-inch woofers respectively, they all utilize a 1-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter mounted in the company’s patented Omniguide design. The rotating Omniguide module generates a natural 360-degree sound stage and provides increased placement flexibility due to its uniform dispersion characteristics. The Omniguide module hangs slightly below the ceiling to maximize the benefits of Omniguide technology, which evenly fills large areas with enveloping sound.

With their 360-degree sound dispersion, these in-ceiling speakers are ideal for complete multi-channel dedicated home theater systems. The Omnican’s uniform sound dispersion allows for perfect blending when combined with a Mirage subwoofer placed on the floor. Additionally, the Omnican series is voiced to match the company’s Nanosat® Prestige, Omnisat® v2 and OMD-5 speakers, allowing for a variety of mix-and-match systems.

“Omnican speakers are the perfect choice for complete in-ceiling home theaters—which is a growing market segment. They deliver what is impossible to achieve in conventional in-ceiling designs,” said Tustin-Fuchs.

The OC-65, OC-55 and OC-45 have paintable, low-profile grilles, making them great for unobtrusive installations. Furthermore, each speaker’s weather-resistant construction provides whole-house audio performance, including high humidity areas such as bathrooms and outdoor applications; included back-boxes ensure uniform tonal balance. These back boxes are also removable for space-restricted installations.

The latest Omnican models are packaged individually and are sold through the residential contracting market as well as authorized Mirage retailers. U.S. MSRP pricing is as follows: $175 for each OC-45, $250 for each OC-55 and $375 for each OC-65.

TORONTO, ON (May 1, 2008) — Designed for those who crave exquisite style and powerful performance in a compact package, the new Mirage® Prestige 5 home theater system boldly immerses listeners in their favorite music and movie entertainment without overshadowing their rooms’ décor.

Consisting of four Nanosat Prestige satellites that serve as front and surround channels and a Nano center channel, this five-channel bundle incorporates over 30 years of research and development experience, including exclusive Omnipolar® technology to deliver the company’s signature 360-degree sound.

According to Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager, the petite Prestige 5 not only directs sound toward the listener, it reflects it off walls, ceilings and other surfaces, resulting in an enveloping audio experience “like no other.”

Featuring a multi-layered, hand-crafted medium density fiberboard cabinet, each magnetically-shielded Prestige satellite employs a 2.75-inch titanium deposit polypropylene woofer and 0.75-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter mounted in Mirage’s patented Omniguide dispersion system. The Omniguide module lies hidden under a black cloth-covered grille, creating a classy look that easily integrates the satellites into any home décor. Equipped with high-quality five-way binding posts, these speakers permit the use of banana plugs, spades or a bare wire connection. Furthermore, these speakers can be wall mounted using the included brackets, placed on a table or affixed to optional MS-STB stands for endless placement flexibility.

An ideal companion for the satellites, the magnetically-shielded center channel is a two-way design that utilizes proprietary Omniguide technology with a 0.75-inch Pure Titanium Hybrid tweeter and 3-inch polypropylene woofer. Constructed of high-quality extruded aluminum, the center channel features premium five-way mounting terminals on the back of its cabinet for improved speaker connectivity. It comes equipped with a simple tabletop mount as well as a unique bracket for flush mounting to a wall.

For increased low-frequency response, Mirage recommends pairing the system with its Prestige S10 or S8 subwoofers that are sold separately.

A bass-reflex design with dual rear-firing ports, the Prestige S10 features a powerful 10-inch front-firing fiberglass composite driver with patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround. This proprietary design eliminates any surround dimpling, enabling the subwoofer to play lower with greater output and fidelity. A high-performance BASH® amplifier allows this hard-hitter to deliver 300 watts of continuous power and 1,200 watts of dynamic peak power. A bass-reflex design with a single rear-firing port, the smaller Prestige S8 offers the same driver technology as the S10, but instead, utilizes an 8-inch woofer and generates 200 watts of continuous power with 800 watts of dynamic peak power.

Available in a sophisticated high-gloss black piano lacquer finish, the Prestige 5 bundle, priced at $899 (U.S. MSRP), is available for purchase through the specialty retail market. The optional Prestige S10 and S8 subwoofers are priced at $699 and $499 respectively.

The Mirage® Prestige 5 System was among them, recognized for its outstanding achievement and innovation in the best speaker systems category.

The Mirage brand is synonymous with Omnipolar® technology; this small home theater setup—consisting of four Nanosat® Prestige satellites and a Nano center channel—boldly produces 360-degrees of audio brilliance. A patented Omniguide module (patent #6,996,243) distributes sound directly toward the listener, as well as reflects it off walls, ceilings and other surfaces, resulting in total immersion.

The Prestige 5 System and Prestige S8 subwoofer not only let consumers enjoy a big theater experience at home, they are elegantly crafted and feature a modern, beautiful finish that adds a splash of sophistication to any room.
The Mark of Excellence Awards program, presented by CEA's TechHome Division, recognizes the best in custom home electronics products, services, and installed technology. Each year, manufacturers, distributors, and systems integrators enter to compete in award categories for this coveted honor. A four-member judging team comprised of systems integrators, manufacturers and members of the trade press/industry consultants evaluate the entries.

All of the winners will be announced at an awards dinner on Friday, March 14 at the Rosen Centre Hotel, during the ninth annual Electronic House Expo (EHX) Spring 2008.

Mirage® Dramatically Improves Third-Generation Home Theater Speakers

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 7, 2008) — Superior driver technology, slim cabinetry and sleek style were all significant factors when Mirage—known for its immersive sound—began designing its latest OS³ home audio speakers. Slated to launch next month, this third-generation Omnisat® Series, consisting of a floorstanding speaker, center channel and compact audio speaker, will replace the company’s v2 line.

According to Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager, the Omnisat v2 Series firmly established itself as one of the best-sounding home speaker lines in its class. Technology advancements over the past few years, however, have allowed Mirage engineers to take this line and really improve upon its style and immersive performance. In fact, many of the technologies found in the OS³ speakers trickle down from Mirage’s flagship OMD Series.

Where cosmetics are concerned, the new magnetically shielded OS³-FS floorstanding speaker, OS³-CC center channel and compact OS³-SAT speaker are slimmer-looking and curvier than their predecessors. All three models are available in a high-gloss black finish and feature magnetic grilles covered in black cloth. Additionally, the floorstander comes in a brushed-black version, while the compact speaker has a high-gloss white option, too. High quality five-way binding posts on each model ensure distortion-free connections.

“These contemporary home audio speakers will appeal to a large variety of consumers—especially the design-conscious person who desires premium audio in a sleek and sexy package,” said Tustin-Fuchs.

With a minimal depth of 6.125 inches, the OS³-FS floorstander, mounted to a glass base for added appeal and stability, stands almost 42 inches tall. It features an MDF-reinforced cabinet to eliminate cabinet vibration and reduce standing waves. The cabinet is internally divided into two sections. The top portion features a 1-inch pure titanium tweeter and an active 4.5-inch poly titanium deposit hybrid midbass driver with an aluminum phase plug, mounted in a patented Omniguide array. This section also incorporates a 4.5-inch passive radiator for greater bass extension. The bottom section consists of four 4.5-inch poly titanium hybrid passive radiators and two active 4.5-inch poly titanium hybrid woofers with aluminum phase plugs, allowing the speaker to create tight, precise bass without the need for a subwoofer. All of the drivers apply patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology for greater output and fidelity.

The OS³-CC center channel employs a 0.75-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter, a 3-inch poly titanium deposit hybrid midrange and two 4.5-inch poly titanium deposit hybrid woofers with neodymium motor structures and aluminum phase plugs. Like the floorstander, the OS³-CC utilizes Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology on its woofers. It also comes with a detachable tabletop stand and a wall mount bracket.

A little over 8 inches tall, the versatile and compact OS³-SAT can serve as a front, center or surround sound speaker. It employs a 1-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter and a 4.5-inch polypropylene titanium deposit hybrid woofer with an aluminum phase plug and Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. An included wall/ceiling mount bracket and optional Mirage floor stand further add to the speaker’s adaptability.

According to Tustin-Fuchs, however, Mirage’s Omnipolar® approach to sound is what makes these home audio speakers and the company’s other product lines truly unique. Each Omnisat OS³ speaker has a patented Omniguide module, involving two deflectors. While one deflector rests on top of the speaker’s tweeter, the tweeter itself is housed in a deflector, suspended over the midrange or woofer. These combined elements distribute sound directly towards the listener, as well as reflect it off walls, ceilings and other surfaces—resulting in a perfect 360-degree soundstage that evenly permeates the listening environment.

All of these speakers will be sold individually through the specialty retail channel for mix and match simplicity. The U.S. MSRP for the new Omnisat models is as follows: $250* for the satellite, $400* for the center channel, $500* for the brushed-black floor stander and $600* for the high-gloss black floorstander. For increased bass response, the company recommends pairing the speakers with any of the following Mirage subwoofers: the miniature MM-8 or MM-6, the Omni-S8 or the Prestige S10 or S8.

Mirage® Refreshes Popular Nanosat® Speaker and Matching Subwoofer

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 7, 2008) — While the new Mirage® Nanosat® speaker and subwoofer continue the same “immersive sound from a compact cabinet” design approach as the models they replace, they’ve adopted a fresh finish and engineering updates, making them more desirable than ever.

“The original Nanosat has always been a top seller for Mirage. And, we are confident that this latest version will have just as much—if not more—impact on the market,” said Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager. “Plus, it’s a great choice for a newbie just getting into premium sound, because it’s the most affordable Omnipolar® home audio speaker setup on the market.”

Standing less than 6 inches tall, each unobtrusive, magnetically shielded Nanosat features a brushed black-aluminum cabinet and a soft black cloth grille, as opposed to the previous black-and-silver aluminum finish and mesh grille. Such qualities let these stereo speakers pair up nicely with today’s flat TVs and blend seamlessly with any décor. While it looks just fine sitting on a table or shelf, the Nanosat comes with a universal mounting bracket for on-wall installation. It also attaches to the company’s optional MS-STB floor stand for further placement flexibility.

Where drivers are concerned, the Nanosat employs a 0.75-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter for warm, rich high frequencies and a 2.75-inch titanium deposit polypropylene woofer cone with a butyl rubber surround for substantial bass performance with low distortion.

However, according to Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage’s Omnipolar® approach to sound is what makes these speakers and the company’s other product lines truly unique. He explains that Mirage is among the few audio manufacturers founded on the principle that sound should be omnidirectional and completely immersive, rather than directional and “forced.”

Each Nanosat has a patented Omniguide module, involving two deflectors. While one deflector rests on top of the speaker’s tweeter, the tweeter itself is housed in a deflector, suspended over the woofer. These combined elements distribute sound directly towards the listener, as well as reflect it off walls, ceilings and other surfaces—resulting in a perfect 360-degree soundstage that evenly permeates the listening environment.

The all-new Nano S8 subwoofer, compact in its own right, showcases a timeless, durable black satin finish, so it will never be considered the “eyesore” in the corner. Timbre matched to the Nanosat, this heavy hitter is built to take music and home theater experiences to the next level, delivering rich, clear bass response. It features a completely new amplifier and updated 8-inch driver over the subwoofer it replaces. A patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround borders the driver, a technology that eliminates distortion and produces greater output and fidelity. An added variable frequency control lets users adjust the subwoofer’s performance to their room’s characteristics, as well as the other components in the home theater system.

Slated to launch in September to specialty retail outlets, the Nanosat can be purchased individually for $125* each, as a five-speaker bundle for $550*, as well as a five-speaker bundle that includes the Nano S8 subwoofer for $800*. All of the above reflects U.S. MSRP pricing.

New Mini Mirage® Subwoofers Designed to Pack Serious Bass Punch

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 7, 2008) — In order to achieve dynamic home theater and music listening experiences, you need a subwoofer. Most people, however, are turned off by its big, boxy appearance, often referring to it as “the eyesore in the corner.” Well, thanks to the new cube-shaped Mirage MM-8 and MM -6 mini subwoofers, those days are gone.

According to Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager, the MM-8 and MM-6 are the smallest high powered subwoofers the company has ever introduced. In fact, these models offer powerful, deep bass that can be compared to larger, more expensive designs.

“Get ready to be moved because these mini subwoofers are sure mighty, packing premium materials and advanced technologies that let you experience the full impact of your music and movies,” he said. “And, while you’ll feel their thunder, they won’t steal it away from your room. Both neatly tuck away in a corner or under a table out of view.”

While the MM-8 and MM-6 vary slightly when it comes to cabinet, amp and driver sizes, they share the same features. Both models, according to Tustin-Fuchs, have an exceptional cosmetic fit and finish, constructed of rigid medium density fiberboard and finished in a high-gloss black, achieved via seven layers of hand-sanded polyurethane.

Unified line and sub inputs, as well as a variable low-pass filter with bypass mode, let the subwoofers blend with Mirage speakers, as well as other designs, using the built-in crossover or home theater receiver. A 0 to 360-degree phase control integrates either subwoofer with other speakers. An auto-on switch turns the subwoofers on or off automatically, based on the presence of a bass signal. Finally, a proprietary protection circuit allows the MM-8 and MM-6 subwoofers to deliver clear bass at all volume levels.

A 9-inch cube, the MM-8 subwoofer employs a 1200-watt amplifier, an 8-inch woofer and two 8-inch passive radiators. All three drivers have a black anodized aluminum cone with an inverted Ribbed Elliptical Surround, a proprietary design that increases excursion and reduces distortion. The MM-6 subwoofer, which is an 8-inch cube, uses the same high quality driver materials, but has an 800-watt amplifier, a 6.5-inch woofer and dual 6.5-inch passive radiators.

Slated to hit the specialty retail market in October, the Mirage MM-8 and MM-6 will be sold for $800* (U.S. MSRP) and $600* (U.S. MSRP), respectively.

Mirage® Brings Signature Immersive Sound to its Smallest Speakers Ever

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 7, 2008) — Featuring five palm-size speakers and the brand’s smallest-ever powered subwoofer, the new Mirage® MX home theater system is engineered to deliver serious sound without drowning out a room’s décor.

“This is truly a milestone for Mirage, and perhaps the entire consumer electronics industry,” said Martin Tustin-Fuchs, Mirage product line manager. “Because the miniature MX system, which stands for ‘minimum exposure, maximum entertainment,’ uses extremely high-performance drivers and components, listeners will be blown away by its intense WOW factor.”

According to Ian Paisley, vice president of engineering for Mirage and the mind behind the MX, two phrases motivated him in its design: “less is more” and “speakers should be heard and not seen.” Paisley, who, after 30 years with the company, plans to retire in September, considers this miniature marvel his “swan song.”

“Mirage has come a long way from 1986’s 5-foot M-1 speaker to today’s 4.3-inch tall MX model,” Paisley said. “The MX is one of the coolest projects I have ever been involved with. It demonstrates what is possible if you open your mind to all of today’s incredible technologies.”

Each two-way MX stereo speaker has a maximum power handling of 100 watts, working well with a wide variety of amplifiers. Inside each durable polycarbon enclosure finished in high-gloss black, you’ll find a .63-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter for warm, rich high frequencies and a 2.5-inch aluminum woofer for substantial, low distortion bass performance. According to Paisley, the fact that the company managed to apply its unique Omnipolar® technology to a product this size is the most impressive feature of them all.

“Omnipolar technology is what makes these small audio speakers sound huge and immersive,” he said. “With compact designs, the Omnipolar advantage of creating a massive sound stage is even more important than with larger stereo speakers. It’s also important to note that this technology only works with the best drivers possible; otherwise, the magic wouldn’t be there.”

At the core of Omnipolar technology rests the patented Omniguide module, which has two deflectors. While one deflector rests on top of the speaker’s tweeter, the tweeter itself is housed in a deflector, suspended over the woofer. These combined elements distribute sound directly towards the listener, as well as reflect it off walls, ceilings and other surfaces—resulting in a 360-degree soundstage that evenly permeates the listening environment.

An 8-inch cube constructed of rigid MDF, the system’s MM-6 subwoofer employs an 800-watt amplifier, dual 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum passive radiators and a 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum cone woofer with an inverted Ribbed Elliptical Surround, delivering tight, powerful bass response with low distortion. The subwoofer also includes a proprietary protection circuit, allowing users to achieve clear bass at all volume levels. A low pass filter with bypass mode allows the subwoofer to blend perfectly with the other MX speakers, using the built-in crossover or a home theater receiver. Finished in high-gloss black, the MM-6 features seven layers of polyurethane and has been hand sanded to further enhance its lustrous quality.

Slated to launch in November to specialty retail outlets, the Mirage MX home theater system will carry a U.S. MSRP of $1,200*. Mirage will also sell individual MX stereo speakers for $150*, so consumers can add channels to their 5.1 MX package, if desired.

Mirage® Unveils New Brand Identity

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 21, 2008) — To better illustrate its current position within the consumer electronics market as well as define its intentions to meet future customer needs, Mirage® speakers is adopting a fresh look and brand strategy, starting with a new logo and web site that launch next month.

“For Mirage, the time was right; we’re rolling out exciting products this fall and appealing to new audiences,” said Jill Escol, Mirage marketing manager. “Our logo and web site have been redesigned to reach out to those who don’t yet know the Mirage name, while demonstrating our enthusiasm and our revitalization to those who already do.”

Immersive, 360-degree Omnipolar® sound is at the core of the Mirage philosophy and reflected in the technologies the brand develops. The new logo, enclosed in its gentle arcs, fully embodies that concept. Its look is clean and contemporary, like the products on which it appears.

The web site will also exude modern appeal, focusing on how Mirage speakers benefit and blend with your lifestyle. Also, many of the site’s functions have been streamlined, so that visitors have quick and easy access to the information they need to make solid purchase decisions.

“The previous logo and web site served us well; these updates are forward looking, in keeping with the ambitious plans we have to increase global recognition of the Mirage name and to reinforce our brand promises,” said Escol. “We’re dedicated to delivering the highest performing lifestyle-oriented speakers on the market; offering the most enveloping sound and realistic reproduction of recordings possible, at any given price point.”

In the upcoming months, Mirage will launch several innovative products, including the brand’s smallest 5.1 home theater system ever, a series of small, high powered “mini” subwoofers, as well as a new generation of the sleek and slender Omnisat® speaker line and a refresh of the popular Nanosat® 5.1 system.

The Mirage legacy began in Canada in 1977 when a small group of devout audiophiles made it their mission to develop a speaker that could deliver a soundstage so natural, it would “virtually” disappear into the room. Audiences would forget they were listening to a product and feel as if they were experiencing a live event. And, ever since then, Mirage has passionately built upon that heritage. In fact, it is the only speaker brand founded on the principle that sound should be Omnipolar, or completely immersive, rather than directional.

“We understand how people listen,” said Escol. “Mirage never forces their sound on a listener, but rather envelops them.”
